Gunness Village

An old fire station door with a bell mounted in a brick arch above it

The parish of Gunness is near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. It encompasses the village of Gunness from the banks of the river Trent up to the outskirts of Scunthorpe itself. It is an odd shaped parish for which we will soon have a map to look at. There is lots of information on the site. Take a look at our events page for all that is going on and news on what the Parish Council does for the parish.

Although not a large parish in area, it has a lot in it. There is Gunness and Burringham Primary School, Gunness Wharf, a busy place with ships in most days of the week. In the village of Gunness there is an MOT testing station and cars sales garage, There is a second MOT testing station and tyre garage that also does repairs. We have three pubs in the parish, The Ironstone Wharf, The Jolly Sailor and the Old Farmhouse. Gunness also has a Post Office and shop, very handy indeed. There is also a very good Timber Merchants that is always very busy. As you leave the village of Gunness and head towards Scunthorpe there is a stretch of farmland which leads to a roundabout where the M181 finishes. We have excellent transport links, it doesn’t take long to get to the M18 and M62. The parish has several farms within its boundary as the area has always been used for agricultural purposes.

Gunness Straight is nearly as far east as the parish stretches and is on the outskirts of Scunthorpe so is more densely populated. There is a large retail park with Tesco Extra, B&Q, Next, TK Maxx, Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut, KFC, Frankie and Bennys and a Travelodge. Opposite lies another retail park including Marks and Spencer, Boots, B&M, Subway, Costa Coffee. Adjacent to all of this is the football ground, Glanford Park, the home ground of Scunthorpe United (The Iron) If you look on the useful links page some of these places have links to them and they are well worth a look.

At the very eastern edge of the parish is Hilton Avenue and the Lodge Moor estate. The parish council meet in Coleman Hall at the rear of St Barnabas Church on the first Thursday of every month. A full list of Councillors can be found on the Councillors page on this site and agendas and minutes for the meetings on the Meetings page.

For any enquiries please contact our Chairperson or any of the Parish Councillors. Contact details are on the Councillors page of this website.
